Twitter Mute is a feature that allows you to remove an account’s Tweets from your timeline without unfollowing or blocking that account. You can mute someone’s account for a certain time if you don’t want to see any Tweets from Them. Here is How to mute accounts on Twitter and manage listed Muted Accounts.

Muting from a Tweet:

  1. From a Tweet, click the  icon 
  2. Click Mute.

Muting from a profile:

  1. Go to the profile page of the person you wish to mute.
  2. Click the overflow icon 
  3. Select Mute from the options listed.

How to mute words and hashtags

  1. Click Settings and privacy from your profile image drop-down.
  2. Click Muted words.
  3. Click Add. 
  4. Enter the word or hashtag you’d like to mute. Entries can only be added one at a time.
  5. Select the Home timeline if you wish to mute the word or phrase from your Home timeline.
  6. Select Notifications if you wish to mute the word or phrase from your Notifications.
  7. Specify From anyone or From only people I don’t follow.
  8. For how long? choose between Forever, 24 hours from now, 7 days from now, or 30 days from now.)
  9. Click Add.
  10. You will see the mute time period indicated next to each entered word or hashtag.
  11. If you would like to stop receiving notifications for a particular conversation, you can choose to mute it. When you mute a conversation, you won’t get any new notifications about that conversation. 
    1. Go to the Tweet detail of any Tweet or a reply in the conversation you wish to mute.
    2. Click or tap the icon. 
    3. Tap Mute this conversation

  1. Visit the muted account’s profile on Twitter.
  2. On twitter.com, click the mute icon  to unmute. On the Twitter app for iOS or Android, tap Unmute next to You have muted Tweets from this account.

How to view and manage your list of muted accounts

On iOS:

  1. Tap your profile icon, then tap Settings and privacy.
  2. Tap Privacy and safety.
  3. Under Safety, tap Muted
  4. Tap Muted accounts.
  5. You can unmute accounts by tapping the mute icon 
  6. You can also follow or unfollow any of the accounts on this list by tapping the Follow and Unfollow icons.
  7. To block or report an account, tap the profile image. You’ll be directed to the account’s profile. From here, tap the overflow icon  and select Block or Report from the menu.

On Android:

  1. In the top menu, you will either see a navigation menu icon  or your profile icon. Tap whichever icon you have.
  2. Tap Settings and privacy.
  3. Tap Privacy and safety.
  4. Under Safety, tap Muted accounts
  5. You can unmute users by tapping the mute icon 
  6. You can also follow or unfollow any of the accounts on this list by tapping on the Follow and Unfollow icons.
  7. To block or report an account, tap the profile image. You’ll be directed to the account’s profile. From here, tap the overflow icon  and select Block or Report from the menu.

  1. From your profile icon, select Settings, and privacy.
  2. Click on Muted accounts.
  3. From the top of the list, you can select to view accounts you follow that you have muted or all accounts that you have muted. 
  4. You can unmute accounts by clicking the mute button 
  5. To block or report an account, click the overflow icon and select Block or Report from the menu.
