September 25: IBM Announces “Micro Channel Architecture”

On September 25, 1987, IBM announced plans to build Micro Channel Architecture, a new system for transporting information within a computer that it claims can transfer data at 160 million bytes per second, or eight times faster than the fastest speed at the time.
